Is WINNING everything?

Champions always play to win, but understand that both winning and losing are important parts of the game they love.

Parental Tips:

• Always support your children, whether they win or lose;

• Emphasize good play over winning; and

• Focus on athlete performance, rather than game outcome.

SUGGESTION:As parents, remind your athlete (and yourself) that every sporting event has a victor. Some of the time your children will be on the winning side, many times, they will not. It is important to accept both sides of the spectrum with grace. Help your children realize the process of the game – how the game was played – is more important in the overall scheme of their whole sport career than simply the final score.

2012 Volleyball Playoff Brackets Posted

The 2012 CYO Volleyball playoff brackets are currently posted on the CYO Athletics Website. Our championships will be at Lakeside High School this year, and we thank them for allowing us to use their facility, but we also want to thank all the other parishes and schools who graciously offered up their gym for this event.

Due to conflicts with school plays, Environmental Education, 1st Eucharist, etc. we had to get creative with some of the game times in a few of the tournaments. Mostly this occurred in the 6th grade girls tournament as there were 27 teams, but there are some other brackets as well that may look a little quirky after avoiding parish/school conflicts.

Obviously we have two weeks before playoffs begin, so Happy Easter and enjoy the break, but be ready to go come April 18th.

2012 Baseball Schedules Posted

The 2012 CYO Baseball schedules are posted online. As usual field time was limited, so we had to make do with some of the locations for home games. As it is, in the 7th/8th divisions there are still four games we do not have a location or time for as we ran out of field time in those areas. As soon as we have a field, we will plug in those times and locations. Here are some other things to remember going forward.

As we only had one division with enough teams to create a normal working schedule, once again we had to get creative with how things were put together. Like last year, to ensure equality in the schedule, there are a good many “non-counting games”. All non-counting games are highlighted in yellow on the schedule.

In the 7th/8th grade divisions, we did need to play inter-division games. Those games are all non-counters, but all teams are indicated with either an (N) for National, or an (A) for American.

We did do our best effort to avoid all volleyball conflicts on March 11th, and 25th for parishes playing both baseball and volleyball. In some situations the most we could guarantee was 30 minutes of travel time, but in most cases it is no less than an hour.
